death's dynamic shroud - I'll Try Living Like This (2015)
I know, I know, I need to be better about updating this blog. I start medical school soon, so hopefully I can make a habit of posting during the school year. I can make it a morning thing or something.
Anyway, here is some seriously trippy and psychedelic vaporwave from death's dynamic shroud. I haven't even finished listening to it, but I am digging this album so much that I'll jump the gun and post ahead of finishing it. It's free/name your price on Bandcamp. I'm seriously considering ordering the LP, but right after I purchase Bell Witch's debut on vinyl via the Flenser.

Deafheaven - Ordinary Corrupt Human Love (2018)
Sorry for even more inactivity. Life has been very dynamic at the moment and it's hard to break-in this habit when you have your hands full and mind racing. Haven't even had much of a chance to listen to new music. :( But today, I finally have an opportunity to post. I'm listening to the new Deafheaven album which is yet another pleasant surprise for 2018. I've always loved Deafheaven. Sunbather is undoubtedly one of my favorite albums of all time and I'm confident in the band's ability to produce another stellar record. I guess I just was not really in the mood for a new Deafheaven album prior to the album release. But, as the fates have it their way, I find myself in the melancholic mood that's perfect to listen to a new Deafheaven record.
I've already read some reviews prior to listening to Ordinary Corrupt Human Love and a lot of critics say it sounds like nothing else in their discography, but I'd have to disagree. It sounds like a synthesis of Sunbather and New Bermuda with a little more of a post-rock edge. Nevertheless, the instruments still sound so pretty and the blackgaze moments on the album are always compelling. New Bermuda was a record that sounded stale to me after a while, but I think that Ordinary Corrupt Human Love is a necessary step backwards with intentions of moving in a newer direction. Fans of the band will be pleased with this new installment to their excellent discography.
Track list:
1. You Without End
2. Honeycomb
3. Canary Yellow
4. Near
5. Glint
6. Night People
7. Worthless Animal

A handsome night,
My lover's blood rushes right through me

Kamasi Washington - Heaven and Earth and The Choice EP (2018)
Hope everyone had a wonderful 4th of July. Here is the extremely stellar sophomore album from the soon-to-be jazz legend Kamasi Washington. Stylistically, it sounds similar to his debut The Epic (also incredible) which unquestionably fulfills its promises upon seeing the album cover and reading the title. A wide-range jazz orchestra with an accompanied choir that completely transcends Washington's work above any other jazz musician or band of today. This album is, by all means, heavenly. While jazz may not be the most digestible form of music for a casual listener, I recommend listening to this album one disc at a time (same thing with The Epic as it is a 3 hour album).
I also added The Choice EP since it can be found hidden within the packing for Heaven and Earth, which is honestly a really really really cool surprise. It is considered a companion piece to the album, so I also recommend listening to it after you've listened to the album.

Teddy Pendergrass - Teddy (1979)
Sorry for the long delay in posting again. I was on a wonderful Mediterranean cruise with limited internet access, but now I'm back. I discovered this gem of an album on the boat after Freddie Gibbs released a new album imitating this exact cover. Very extroverted R&B music that hits the sweet spot. Play this album with the fireplace on.

3. I'll Never See Heaven Again
4. All I Need Is You
5. If You Know Like I Know

Madlib - Shades of Blue (2003)
Starting off the week with some seriously good jazz-sampled hip-hop composed by the legendary hip-hop producer Madlib. Anything this guy touches turn to gold, I can't say there is a project by him (that I have heard) that I do not like. Ambitious, but also highly knowledgeable on music and its technics. Madlib signed with Blue Note records for this album in particular. Since he is signed with the legendary jazz label, he has their full master recording catalogues at his disposal for his sampling pleasure. A wise and safe choice by Blue Note because there is no other man within hip-hop as deserving of the privilege other than Madlib. I'll be sure to post some of his other side-projects in due time to prove his genius.
Track list:
1. Introduction
2. Slim's Return
3. Distant Land
4. Mystic Bounce
5. Stormy (feat. Morgan Adams Quartet Plus Two)
6. Blue Note Interlude
7. Please Set Me at Ease (feat. MED)
8. Funky Blue Note (feat. Morgan Adams Quartet Plus Two)
9. Alfred Lion Interlude
10. Stepping Into Tomorrow (feat. MF DOOM)
11. Andrew Hill Break
12. Montara
13. Song For My Father
14. Footprints
15. Peace/Dolphin Dance
16. Outro
My destiny is found.

Jesu - Jesu (2004)
Time to get a little more heavy in this blog. Jesu is a doom metal/shoegaze project by ex-Godflesh member Justin Broadrick, who is also a frequent collaborator with my boy Mark Kozelek. His debut album is dark and HEAVY, but does not contain any harsh vocals making it an excellent intro album to anyone looking to get into doom metal. Open your mind and listen to a different side of metal music.
Track list:
1. Your Path to Divinity
2. Friends Are Evil
3. Tired of Me
4. We All Faulter
5. Walk On Water
6. Sun Day
7. Man/Woman
8. Guardian Angel
Sonic weight.
